vSAN 8 and vCetner 8 but vSphere 7 hosts

To all,

Can a cluster of vSphere 7 hosts be managed by vCenter 7 with vSAN 8 licensing?

I am being told that its possible, but I don't see how.  You would not get the features of vSAN 8 in a vSphere 7 host.

@dtlibonati2008, Yes you can manage ESXi 7 nodes with vSAN enabled with a vCenter 8. The nodes/cluster would of course not be able to use any features added in vSphere/vSAN 8.

Edit: re-read your question - why would you have a vSAN 8 license applied to a vSAN 7 node? This won't be applicable, use a vSAN 7 license for these unless the vCenter is version 8, if you upgrade the vCenter to 8.x you can use a vSAN 8 license (on only this) on ESXi 7.x nodes.

Hi,

You can't. VSAN 8 license keys must be downgraded in VMware Customer Connect to version 7. vSphere 7 will not accept license keys from VSAN 8.

You cannot, why you want to use vsan 8 license to vsphere 7 . better way you uprade your vsphere 7 licnese to 8. so that u have both license vsan 8 and vsphere 8 .

Thanks & Regards,
