What RAID-0 Settings should I use for VSAN 6.2 - M5210 Controller?

Hi All,

I'm trying the obtain the recommended settings for each RAID-0 VD I create for VSAN 6.2.

I'm using brand new Lenovo x3550 M5 servers with LSI ServeRAID M5210 Controllers with 1GB Cache. I am able to set these controllers up in JBOD / Pass-Through mode but I'm not sure if that is supported as yet.

So the options I have for a RAID-0 VD is the following below, I've highlighted the default in red. Now I know this KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2111266 defines some of the settings but what about the other settings?

Strip Size: 64KB, 128KB, 256KB, 512KB, 1MB

Read Policy: No Read Ahead, Read Ahead, Adaptive Read Ahead

Write Policy: Write Through, Always Write, Write Back with BBU

I/O Policy: Direct I/O, Cached I/O

Access Policy: Read Write, Read Only, Blocked

Disk Cache Policy: Unchanged, Enabled, Disabled

Initialization Status: No Initialization, Fast Initialization, Full Initialization

Good morning, they all look correct except for the Read Policy.  That should be set to No Read Ahead.  Thank you, Zach.

Per the vSan Helath check, the settings of capacity HDD drives should be Read Ahead Always, WriteThrough, and Direct IO. The settings of cache SSD drives should be No Read Ahead, WriteThrough, and Direct IO.
