The Total Number of Capacity Drives Question

We have a 4 node vSAN configuration, and each host has 3 disk groups.

My question is about the number of capacity in each DG. Is there any advantage or disadvantage with performance if use 1 8TB drive vs. 2 x 4TB or even 4 x 2TB drives?

I know using a smaller drive will limit the future storage growth, but will having multiple SAS ports in play help in performance?

I have been looking for an answer to this everywhere but haven't found one yet. Any comments are appreciated.

Hi,

Using multiple capacity in a disk group can increase overall performance on your vSAN DS because different IO can land on different capacity drives, its a way to load balance load between drives, which have limited performance characteristics. Also, pay attention in some cases usuing stripe width can also help increase performance, but in depend on workload profile you are using

Also, using multiply disk groups can increase overall performance because of multiple can devices which will serve read/write IO in a hybrid architecture.
