  • 1.  Mix SATA and SAS drives on VSAN node

Are there any considerations to be aware of?  Should different disk controllers be used?  It seems to be supported as there's VSAN Ready nodes with a mix of SAS and SATA but wanted to see if there's any gotchas or anything else to be mindful of when mixing drive types.

    The config will be:

qty 8 - 960GB Solid State Drive SAS Mix Use MLC 2.5in Hot-plug Drive

qty 16 - 3.84TB Solid State Drive SATA Read Intensive TLC 6Gbps 2.5in Hot-plug Drive

    Hello,

How were you planning to set this up?:

    4 nodes each with 2x Disk-groups each composed of 1x 960GB SSD as caching-tier + 2x 3.84TB SSDs as capacity-tier?

There should be no problem with a set-up as per above provided all disks (and controllers) are on the vSAN HCL and of course that the 960GB SSDs are certified for use as All-Flash caching-tier.
