How to add vendor-specific capabilities

Hi All

I had build my VSAN Lab , and I try to create Policy to set some rule about VSAN, but I could not see and about failure node or other somthing(whether I use "Rule based on tags" or not ??), I read other document and slide, and find the document set "vendor-specific capabilities" and could see above setting...

I want to ask which place I could add vendor-specific capabilities ??

thanks!!

Hi wyldkao,

Please try the below steps to create Vm Storage policy.

* Go to "Home" page in the Web Client

* Choose "VM Storage Policy"

* Choose "create a new VM Storage Policy"

* Give a name to the policy > click next twice and you would end up in a page to choose VSAN as the VASA provider

VMware Doc for the same.

Hi All

I read vSphere 5.5 docuement, a section about VSAN Storage Provide said: VSAN will auto configure and register hosts's storage provider...

But I check Vcetner==> Manage ==> Storage Providers is empty.

whether the reason is that I use workstation's VM as server which  ESXi install or not ?

thanks!!

Hello Wyld,

We have come across few instance similar to the issue you have briefed.

Could you please let me know if the VC was upgraded from any other version to 5.5 Update 1 or a clean install. Also can you file a Support request with us to take this further?

Thanks.

HI

My vcenter indeed upgrade from 5.0.0 Update1 upgrade to 5.5.0 U1 (version 5.5.0_1750795_20140201) ,but  ESXi  is new install (Version 5.5.0.update1_1623387)

sorry, my English is poor so I do not understand your mean about "file a Support Request" ., do you want me create a service request ?

I use trial version, so I should be not create ~~

Upgraded vCenter Server instances are not supported at this time is my understanding. If this is a basic lab, I would recommend redeploying vCenter Server from scratch using 5.5 U1.

Yes Duncan is correct. Upgraded vCenter server instances are not supported at the moment. You can give a try in test lab with fresh install.

Hi All

Thanks, I reinstall Vcenter 5.5U1a and ESXi Server to physical server hardward (I spent my money to buy 2 SSD), and I could see storage provider information in it , so vcenter should be refresh install could get such information.

But I have another question, we could see the screenshot, I have 2 physical server in vcenter HA Cluster , and both had set vSAN switch function, but only one server node register storage provider success, another fail.

which procedure let me re-register this server (192.168.0.62) again...and I try to add it, it show my account\password is incorrect, I use ESXi root account & password , Does storage provider not use root account ?

thanks!!

HI

KB below stated the VSAN minimum requirement is 3 nodes

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=205842...

Coming to this issue

i) we can check whether the vsanvpd service is running in both the ESXi hosts. If at all it is not running VP will show as offline , but in your case its not visible for a host.

ii) we can try resyncing the VP by clicking on the resync button ( orange cyclic icon button) to check whether the second VP comes up.

If the earlier steps didn't give you the result

execute the below command within the ESXI box

~ esxcli vsan cluster leave

~ Move the ESXi host for which the VP is not showing up  out of VSAN cluster  placing them in maintenance mode to the datacenter level and exit out maintenance mode.

~ Once again move the host back to VSAN cluster and try resyncing the VSAN storage providers (orange cyclic icon button) , VP should automatically register back.

Give it a try.

When I reinstall again...I still see empty provider list , but this time , I could add provider manually

but interesting, these information will disappear in one week, I must add them again~

My testing lab is PC not Server model.
