HP DL380 Gen9(p840ar) disks are not visible - ESXi 6.0 U2

Hey guys,

We have 6*HP DEL380 Gen9 hosts with p840ar smart array controller.

- On each host with have 3 SSD drivers and additional 9 SAS magnetic disks of 6TB.

- The host operating system is ESXi 6.0 U2, and was installed from a customized HP iso

- Driver and firmware version installed according to VMware Compatibility guide

- Smart array ports are set to HBA mode

Currently only SSD drives are visible on the host, none of the SAS devices are visible.

What am I doing wrong?

Additional info:

Driver version: 6.0.0.124-1OEM.600.0.0.2494585

Firmware version: 5.04

The command: esxcli storage core devices list - is showing only the SSD drives

The command: esxcli storage core path list  - is showing all the devices

Hello Danco,

Are you positive there are no partitions on these disks?

Can you share the output of this run on one of the hosts?:

# vdq -q

And also the ls -lah output from /dev/disks

Hello André,

the SAS drives are using 512/512 logical and physical block size and according to the compatibility matrices they are fully compatible with the current firmware version.

Hard drive model : HP MB6000JVYYV

Firmware HPD1

Thanks,

Adiel.

Hello Adiel/Danko,

Quite puzzling that 'esxcli storage core path list' lists the devices, possibly the devices are disconnecting/detaching during boot?

Can you attach the boot log located here /var/log/boot.gz ?

Please check if these paths are active via the Web Client:

Host > Configure > Storage Adapters > Select the vSAN controller > Paths
