Different HW in the same cluster

Hi everyone... I have a quick question for you: is there somewhere an HCL to check the intercompatibility among different hardware? I have a customer with 2 hosts in HCL and he wants to add other 2 hosts (also in HCL) but they are different than the first ones. Thank you

Hello Luca82,

Sorry but this is not a thing based on the fact that VMware advise using homogeneous nodes in vSAN clusters (and besides the fact that testing the inter-compatibility between EVERY combination of even just ReadyNodes would be a non-starter). While you shouldn't have issues any special issues running in this configuration, do note that the faster storage nodes (if there is a disparity) will likely be dragged back in this regard waiting for the (comparatively) slower ones to keep up.

Hello Luca,

the health check is on host basis. If you have differend vendors than health check works well too.

But a good design would be not to mix vendors and configurations 🙂

best regards,

Mike
