Auto apply vSAN storage policy?

Hi there,

Is there a way to set the vSAN storage policy to auto apply when a VM is created on the VSAN datastore?

At the moment you have to manually apply it and people in my team always forget to do it... :"(

There is a way, but it it tedious, and can only be done from the CLI.

Check out KB article 2073795 VMware KB: Horizon View 5.3.1 on VMware Virtual SAN - Quick Start Guide

That article, though really for VMware View, has the steps to change the default policy.

As the KB says, be careful when changing it.

Thanks for the quick reply Cormac

What about a way to bulk set the storage policy on multiple VMs? I know you can bulk CHANGE policies but to set the policy the first time seems to be 1 by 1?

If the VMs are deployed on VSAN, then they will have a default policy, so in essence it is a bulk change operation.

There might be other ways of automating it via PowerCLI, but its not something I've had to do myself.
