AF-4 Single CPU?

We've been looking at costs to migrate to AF-4 readynodes from a hybrid setup with 5x 2U servers, we currently have a 10CPU license for VSAN and would like to look at 10x 1U servers to take advantage of Raid 6 and give us piece of mind with the extra availability. I've been looking through readynode configs and most of the 1U boxes are 2xCPU.

I've had quotes from our local Supermicro distributor based on building using HCL components - the costs look good, but I'd prefer something that was supported and recommended by VMWare.

Is anyone running the above config successfully? Single CPU, 1U readynodes with a single disk group in each?

Thanks

Alain

Hi Alain,

Dell has AF-4 nodes that match your specs (with a 16Core AMD EPYC CPU), but using another vendor's AF-4 specs and tailoring them to your needs should also work.

You just need to make sure that you get enough cores and a suitable amount of RAM per node to cover your workloads.

If you have not done so already watch at the Ready node configuration page http://vsanreadynode.vmware.com/
