vMotion problem in vCloud Director 1.5

Jump to solution

Dear guys,

i'm experiencing a funny situation...

I have my vCloud environmnet configured with virtual esxi5.

All is ok except the fact i cannot vmotion guests between these 2 virtual esxi...

I have configured the network as following (all internal) :

- management + vms traffic 192.168.3.x

- vmotion 192.168.2.x

the message i get is esx cannot communicate over the vmotion network...any idea ?

i'm getting mad...

Getting mad trying to make something work that is not supported is just counter-productive Smiley Happy

That being said when messing with virtual ESXi servers in a lab, generally you need to set vSwitches to Promisious mode to work depending on how deeply nested things are.  In my lab I have a single physical host with nested ESXi for the vCloud compute.

Details are here although it needs a bit of updating but the general idea is the same.  There needs to be a lot of tweaking to get the networking in the nested ESXi servers working.  Also depending on how you have presented the VLAN's into the guests etc.

Take a look at my lab setup but beyond that you will have some trial and error.

Hi ,

i know it is not supported and i had VMware tam next to me when i was posting but we need a test lab even if not supported.

i had enabled already promiscuos mode and vcloud internal network is taken by an internal VLAN inside UCS blades.
