vCloud vm 4 digit random string in vm names - can you get rid of it?

vCloud assigns a random 4 digit string after virtual machine name in vSphere inventory.
I know vCloud gives that random string to create 'globally unique' vm's - but can you get rid of that?
I've been testing this in my lab and haven't seen any negative side effects so far.
I've also gone through vCloud manuals, but can't find any official information about it, is it still needed?

Imho, this is required to create VMs with the same names in one org.

Didn't try to turn it off. But it doesn't bother us.
