Hi folks,
I'm currently at the tail end of the design phase for our vCloud hosted solution. Within a couple months after the deployment here in NY, I have to set up the DR/BC site. I will use SRM in conjunction with vCloud and want to cold migrate VMs when and if we run out of capacity. We have some clients in the west coast so I also wanted to have them use the DR/BC site I have chosen in AZ (cheap power and disaster free).
Are there any caveats to this? The only issue I could possibly forsee is latency from NY to AZ. Is anyone doing anything similar to this that can shed light on what I should look out for? I did research and see firms are linking from coast to coast as well as continent to continent. However, no one is discussing any of the hurdles.
I don't know with SRM but it is possible to do live migrations with a quite high round trip latency, and since you want to do cold migrations I can't see any reason for that not to work.
WIll you be using dedicated connections or "over the internet" / VPN connections between the sites?
Hi
Setting up SRM with vCloud Director is not an easy task. I would recommend reading this article by VMware vCloud guru Chris Colotti http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2012/02/13/vcloud-director-infrastructure-resiliency-solution/
