What do you see in the IP information of the edge gateway? has it obtained the internal and external interface IP's? which IP are you trying to ping?

Well I dont know what the external gateway should be. I man man vlans and each vlan has their own gateway. so do I pick a vlan external gateway from each vlan? Thee can only be one external gateway right?

In vsphere, I have dvswitch with different port groups with different vlans tagged.

so what should i use for external gateway?

Hello,

I see that you have created vSE Gateway but did you created any Org Network using the vSE gateway? (Ex: Routed Org Network).

By creating vSE Only will not be much of use.

I would recommend reading this article.

so ok, i created a portgroup called it test in vcenter and vlan 51 tagged

then i go to vcd and create a port group backed network pool, select the port group name that was created in vcenter but now it says port group is in use?

what does that mean in use?
