What does "Synchronize this VM's time with the vDC in which it is running" mean?

Hi,

I found there is an option for VM when right clicking "properties" on a VM which is under "General" tab:

Synchronize this VM's time with the vDC in which it is running

I'm a liitle confuesd by this option. How is this time sync done in VM? What's the difference between this option and "Synchronize guest time with host" in VMware tools? What if these 2 options are turned on at the same time?

Also, is there any documents about this? I searched this in Google and didn't found much valuable stuff.

Thanks,

Kenny

It's the same option as "Synchronize guest time with host", just the wording is changed to cope with the VCD abstraction layer. (vDC is backed by vSphere hosts)

This will cause the "time synchronization between the virtual machine and the ESX Server" to be enabled in the VMTools on the guest so the any ESX hosts in the vDC used to host the VM will be the time source.
