VM console access using Vcloud director

Hi All,

Hope you are having a good day..

I have a issue accessing the console of the virtual machne through Vcloud director. We have provided x.x.x.130 for  HTTP and x.x.x.132 to the console proxy in the vcloud directory. We have opened the ports (443, (TCP & UPD) 902 and 903 ports between VCD, Vcenter and host.

we are able to telnet port 443, but not 902 and 903. Are there any settings in the VCD to be opened or edited to telnet on 902 and 903.

When we try to access the console. We see that the request is directed from https to console proxy(x.x.x.132) and console will be showing status "Connecting". But, doesn't display VM console.

Regards,

Vikram kumar. P

I had seen this happening  to my VM's when the user who did not have Administrator privileges on the machine accessed the VM's. Can you try "Run as administrator" to open the browser and then opening the concole so we can narrow it down and move on the next solution?

Hi Abhilash,

Thanks alot for you reply. I have Administrator privileges on the machine from which I am accessing VCD and I am logging into Vcloud director using Admin previleges. I have also tried what you have suggested, unfortunelty it didn't work.

Thanks..

Unlike Lab manager, vCloud needs only access on 443 to popout console

Where as vCD needs 902 and 903 access to the ESXi server .

Check if there any block in between VCD and ESXi

We have made necessary rules in the firewall to open 902 and 903 ports between VCD and ESXI server. But, I believe that these ports are the issue here. I am able to telnet ESXI host on port 902, but not on 903. When I telnet on 903, it immediatley shows Connection refused. When I access console from VCD, i am able to power ON/Off/Suspend the virtual machine. But, Console will be blank. W

Ive seen this before.

using a browser go to the https://console ip or dns

View the certificate and save it to file or import (some browsers like IE allow to install but chrome you have to save to file)

The install the certificate in trusted root certificate authorities

Should now all work

Hi,

I have installed the certificate, but the issue still persist. We are able to telnet from VCD to ESXi on port 902, but not 903. Also, Telnet happing from VCD to Vcente ron 443, but not on 902 and 903.

There is communication happening between console, since I am able to power On/Off the VM from the console accessing from VCD.

Is it the same case with all browsers? can you try it in different browsers and see if there's any change?

For fast resolution i also suggest you to open a case with Vmware.

At the system level if you go to the administration tab, system settings, public addresses.  Do you have anything in the box for "VCD public console proxy address" ?  If you do make sure that it is correct.  Most likely it should be blank if you are just doing some internal testing.

Can some one help me identity why I am unable to telnet port 903 from VCD to the ESXI host. We have all the rules in place in the firewall to open the ports 902/903 between ESXI and VCD.

We are using linux 6.4, can we specify any firewall rules in VCD to communicate to ESXI over port 903.
