Hi all,

Browsing available documentation, I found that with vCloud Director, tha administrator can create:

  • Provider vDC
  • Organisation vDC

What is the difference?

Hi,

Provider vDC provides resources to organization vDCs.Provider vDC's resource pools must come from the same vCenter(spanning of  provider vDC across multiple DRS clusters is also possible).A single organization can have multiple organization vDCs.Hopefully attached diagram will give you precise information.

Thank you for you quick answer.

If I got it correct

  • One should not directly create VMs into a Provider VDC
  • One should instead create an organisation VDC then create VMS inside it
  • Although there is not Gold/Silver/Bronze philosophy (if there is only one kind of Provider VDC), one should create an organisational VDC from the unique provider VDC and create the VMS inside the Organisational VDC

Am i correct?

Hi,

You are correct ,we wont be able to create VM's in Provider VDC.You need to create Org-VDC,allocate compute resource and create Vapps for VM usage.

  • Although there is not Gold/Silver/Bronze philosophy (if there is only one kind of Provider VDC), one should create an organisational VDC from the unique provider VDC and create the VMS inside the Organisational VDC

Yes,those terms are from business perspective, there are no such alias by default in VCD.
