Problems to access a VM remote console on vCloud Director 8.0

Hi everyone,

I think this problem occur quite often among people using vCloud Director but I haven't seen any proper answer yet.

The fact is that I can't access the remote console of a running VM. When I click on it via the vCloud Director WEB portal, a window appears with "Loading..." message. After something like 10 seconds, "Disconnected" is written instead of "Loading...".

I've tried with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox but nothing changed (except Internet Explorer which asks me to install a pluggin but after that, nothing's better).

I have no idea where to look to solve the problem :-/.

Any help/suggestion would help.

Thanks in advance,

Laurent B.

Hi Laurent,

You are right, this is one of the common problem.Firstly kindly follow each steps in VMware KB: Troubleshooting Virtual Machine Remote Console (VMRC) connectivity issues in VMware vClou... and let me know the results.Based on that we can move forward.

I have to precise that the miniature (or thumbnail?) of the VM in "My Cloud -> VMs", last time I checked and before any modification, displays the last state of the console when I accessed it through vSphere.

Hi Sreec,

Don't worry, no problem.

Well, according to the link you gave me, these steps needed to be fixed before going on :

NTP : All the machines used to run vCloud Director are synchronized to an external public NTP server. (belnet in Belgium).

DNS : Since I'm performing internal tests, I'm only using IPs to identify machines.

Public Address : I think it is not relevant here since I'm in the same subnet, I access it directly.

SSL certificates : I'm using auto-signed certificates created with keytool directly on my CentOS machine.

Client Browser Proxies : Not configured

Local Java Client : JAVA is installed, and I guess it's that...

I have to warn you that I'm an intern in the company where I set up VMware vCloud Director so I'm not aware of everything in the infrastructure.

NOTE : I've just read now on the link you gave me that Java 64 bit is not supported. Is it still the case with vCloud Director 8.0 ?

Even though i haven't tested with 64bit Java,as per the article it is not supported in VCD 8.0 as well.So you will have to check it with 32bit and confirm the status.Hopefully that would make a difference.Still no luck,we need to start looking at the logs.

Hi, since you are using self sign cert, try this KB

VMware KB: Cannot connect to vCloud Director HTML5 console with Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome
