Hello, I'm getting the alert in the image attached when trying to create my first Provider VDC.  I am running vCenter 5.5 and vCloud director 5.5.  I thought that this error could be because I do not have the vCloud agent installed, however it appears to indicate in the link above that the vCloud agent is no longer required unless the host must support creation of vCloud network isolation based (VCDNI), so I don't think that not having the agent is my issue.

I don't believe that I still require the vCloud agent to be installed as part of my autodeploy image (please correct me if I'm wrong).  I'm wondering if I require a minimum of two ESXi hosts in order to get vCloud working properly.  Could someone confirm is two hosts are required?

well, the easiest thing to do is provide a screen capture of the Manage & Monitor > hosts section.

I think you have to go through this at least once, to make them available.  then reboot the host to test auto deploy, and ensure that it comes up as expected without any further interaction.

The screenshot attached definitely seems to indicate that the issue is with the agent being missing from the autodeploy image, doesn't that directly contradict the KB article below?

vCloud Director releases earlier than 5.5 installed an agent on each ESXi host they managed.  Beginning with vCloud Director 5.5, the system no longer requires that agent on ESXi 5.5 hosts unless the host must support creation of vCloud Network Isolation...."

Hi guys,

I'm trying to download and install the VCD agent.  I am finding it impossible to locate the default login credentials for the VCD cell for vCloud director 5.5.  First, I am using the second IP address (not the web interface address).

I have tried the following combinations:

root/vmware

root/default

administrator/vmware

administrator/default

guest/vmware

guest/default

Ironically I have found several sites which give instructions what to do in order to install the agent once you've logged into the VCD cell, but all of them seem to neglect this critical piece of information.  What are the default login credentials??

I do not know the default cred for the appliance, but I would not use the appliance.  It is only for lab and demo use, it should not be (and is not supported) in a production vCloud environment. (Also no migration from appliance to real version)   You can install the full VCD cell on a RedHat or CENT OS VM, and then get the files you need after the install.  The only real downside to this is you need a MicrosoftSQL or Oracle DB that you can use.

Ouch, totally not a RHEL or CENT OS guy.  There's no place that I can just download the agent directly?  VMware doesn't host the files anywhere?  It seems like a lot of work to install the full VCD cell just to get the agent.

It is a little work to just get the agent I agree.  I do not see it available form the places I can download from at least.

I would take the time to install the full VCD cell if you plan on this vCloud being used for moire than just a quick proof of concept.

Looking around

seems to have some information for VCD 5.5 appliance login info.  (says "root/vmware" as the password)

However - I found another guide Default Username and password for VMware Virtual Appliances | VMware Arena  that says "root/Default0"

Another item I have used before to change the root password of the vCenter appliance (if it expires for example)

You might be able to do something like this.  (Maybe snapshot your appliance VM first in case this breaks something)

Hope that gets you in to get the agent.

@cfor  Thanks for trying.  This is for my home lab, and it's proving to be a lot of work to get this up and running.  root/Default0 did not work unfortunately, but I'll work through your other recommendations, and if I'm still really stuck, I'll start learning RHEL.  Ouch.

Not sure if you already figured this out but to download the agent in vCloud Director you can go to "/opt/vmware/vcloud-director/agent"
