Whats the best process to move between vCloud providers.
For example, lets say I have a VPC with vCloud Air, and I'd like to move my business to 3rd party that used vCloud Director.
Or maybe I'm with a vCloud Director provider and I want to move to a new vCloud provider.
Is there any standard workflow or tools that can help make this a bit more seamless rather than exporting to OVA and re-importing? Some sort of sync process would be ideal but i haven't found anything yet.
Hello eccl1213
You could take a look at vSphere Availability / Zerto as some valid replication options.
Also, you could look at backup & restore options such as Veeam that support vCloud Director?
They would need to be installed by the provider though.
P2V is another option but you would need good bandwidth between the two "clouds" and several ports open, plus a lot of testing to ensure it will work as expected.
Hi,
We looked at both vSphere Availability and Zerto. Both of those actually require the Service Provider to have it setup on their vSphere host and neither one supports vCloud Provider to vCloud Provider. And the few we talked too, their DRaaS is separate from VPC services.
I'll look at Veeam to see if works differently (ie no Service Provider integration needed first)
Veeam is going to need at least vCenter access, so if you don't have your own I doubt this will be an option, worth checking though.
If your new VCD instance support VCC(vCloud Connector) that is one option. You can host VCC node in source and destination and move the VM's OR migrate the VCA VM's to on-prem and migrate it to new VCD instance.
The best solution I will propose for moving VM's between vCloud Providers is Hybrid Cloud Manager. Solution is a bit costly but you get a lot of exciting features like vMotion to cloud, zero downtime migration or low downtime migration etc. vCC is also a good choice but if you have VM's that have their disks in TB's then vCC is not an ideal choice.
