Making a vCloud multi VM vApp template

Hi all

I am trying to create a vApp Template with multi VMs, but I think is not possible with the vCloud v1.5.

i have seen this solution:

http://www.gabesvirtualworld.com/making-a-vcloud-multi-vm-vapp-template/

But I think this is only for 5.1, not for 1.5. Because I cannot import more than one VM.

I have create 8 vApp(one for each VM) and will create a ovf for each one. But what I will like to do is to create a vApp with all VMs to export to a ovf and have only one file will all VMs.

If this possible in the 1.5??

Thank You

When I saw this thread I thought it was a joke as I don't import VM's from vCenter directly into vApp Templates so I never ran across this issue.  I had to check it out to see you are correct.

My process adds a couple steps but it can be automated via PowerCLI or VCO as well.

The way I do it is:

  1. Create a new vApp
  2. Import any number of VM's from vCenter that you want to be a part of the vApp
  3. Capture to Catalog
  4. Test deploying from it
  5. Delete Test vApp and original vApp
  6. Consolidate vApp Template disks (if Fast Provisioning is enabled).

I've done this with 2,3, and 4 VM vApps.

Hi

Thank You for your reply. Honestly I don’t see where is the joke.

Why it should be a joke?

And the problem is not from vCenter, but from the vCloud itself. I need create a vApp from all my vCloud VMs and then put into a vApp Template so that we can import into other vCloud implementations.

If this is not possible, I need to export them to vCenter again(one by one) and import them into the vCloud with that procedure. Because we need this VMs and the settings that we have already made on it.

When I said I thought it was a joke I meant that I thought you should be able to direct import more than 1 VM into a vApp Template and someone didn't know how to do it.  After testing and reading the linked post though I see that is actually a fact.

With the details given now you'll have to follow the blog post.

Found it finally Smiley Sad

I need to choose the option open in the vApp, if not I will never get  the option add VMs. I was using only the tab for vApp, not open the  vApp itself aff

Thanks
