How to assign storage

I have a question on storage assignments.

VCD 1.5

ESXi5.0

In this example I have:

3 clusters (CA,CB,CC)

6 datastores (iScsi) SA1,SA2,SB1,SB2,SC1,SC2

VCD: Single PVDC with all 3 clusters added as available resources

Each ESXi host can access all of the datastores, however I would like cloud director to ONLY use storage in a specific way.

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SA1 and SA2 as destinations

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SB1 and SB2 as destinations

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SC1 and SC2 as destinations

I can not figure out how to limit this.  The issue is around bandwidth...  CA can access SA1 and SA2 very quickly, but the other storage is slow to access.  That is OK for a clone operations via VAAI, but it not ok for running the VM's.

Ideas?

Thanks

Hey Cfor,

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SA1 and SA2 as destinations

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SB1 and SB2 as destinations

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SC1 and SC2 as destinations

Did you mean the following:

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CA using ONLY SA1 and SA2 as destinations

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CB using ONLY SB1 and SB2 as destinations

VCD can spin up VM's for hosts in CC using ONLY SC1 and SC2 as destinations

If not in either case it sounds like you are wanting to use something like tiered storage for VCD.

I am just trying to understand better what you are trying to accomplish.

Like are you saying that you have 3 different clusters and that all 3 clusters can see all 6 datastores?  If so that usually isn't a VMware best practice.  Usually you would have the datastores visible to a single cluster. In most cases you wouldn't do this because of the potential problems you could have..
