Fencing vApps With Cloned ESXi

Through my research, I found out that it is possible to virtualize ESXi.  However cloning it is not feasible due to MAC address conflicts.  Correct me if I am wrong on this.

Is it possible to use vCloud's fencing feature to allow cloning of a number of virtualized ESXi hosts without resetting the MAC addresses?

Yes, this is possible and not only related to ESXi.

You can add your fenced vApp to the catalog, and take notice of the option "[x] Make identical copy". This will preserve all the VMs settings perfectly.

Of course if you try to do this without fencing, the second vApp you will deploy will never start because you will have 2 same mac addr on the same L2 network which would break everything.

Hope this helps.

Technically the answer is Yes as that's how VMworld labs are produced but I've never attempted it with vCD.  I've tried with Lab Manager but LM gets really upset when VMware tools is not installed.
