want to upgrade vc from 5.1 to 5.5

Hi all,

Currently we are using vcenter 5.1. can we upgrade 5.5 on it. Remember my vc is on physical server. if yes please mention the stapes.

Yes we just upgraded our 5.1 vCenter to 5.5. Our vCenter server resides on a physical Windows box.

We used the "simple" method.

  • Backup your vcenter and its components
  • If 5.1 was installed using Simple Install, then use the same to upgrade.
  • If 5.1 was installed as separate components then you'll want to upgrade the SSO server first.
    • Then upgrade Inventory Service
    • Then upgrade the Web Client(s)
    • Then upgrade vCenter
    • Then upgrade Update Manager
  • Once the upgrade is complete you can take the SSO DB (RSA) offline. It is no longer being used.
