vpxd.exe high memory usage

hi all

******************************************************************************

environment

vCentre Server: 6.0 build 3634793 = Update2

vCentre Server: Windows 2012 R2 4vCPU, 16GB vRAM

Dedicated MS SQL Server: Windows 2012 R2 4vCPU, 8GB vRAM

ESXi hosts: ~ 50

VMs: ~450

DRS Clusters: 12

Other: Veeam B&R, Zerto Backup

********************************************************************************

We are hitting an issue whereby the memory usage is hitting nearly 100%. From VMware specs page, the above is the reccommended spec.

We can logon to vCentre server and it is operational.

The vpxd.exe process is taking around 10GB RAM, lots of java processes (understand it will be the ESXi hosts querying SSL certs as they are all running on tcp/443).

Going through the vpxd logs I can see some error messages as below

error vpxd[05448] [Originator@6876 sub=SoapAdapter.HTTPService] Failed to read request; stream: <io_obj p:0x000000022fbf42f8, h:29152, <TCP '127.0.0.1:8085'>, <TCP '127.0.0.1:62333'>>, error: class Vmacore::SystemException(An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host)

tcp/8085 is used for Internal Service Diagnostics/SDK

I am wondering whether there is some sort of memory leak on the vCentre server or whether a reboot could fix the issue or even whether we should bump up the vRAM count.

Reading the release notes of Update2a build 4541947, I came across the info below: However we are not using VSAN although there is a service running on the vCentre Server "VMware Virtual SAN Health Service"

"Enabling VSAN service on vCenter Server might cause the vpxd memory to grow continuously

When you enable the Virtual Storage Area Network (VSAN) on vCenter Server, it might cause the vpxd memory to grow continuously.

This issue is resolved in this release."

Any comments/suggestions are appreciated

thanks,
