vmxnet drivers for mac os x?

Is there a driver for vmxnet(3) for Mac OS X?

I'd like to use higher performance than the standard E1000 delivers. The hosts (Cluster of 12Core Mac Pros) have Dual-10GB-Ethernet-Cards, but no vmxnet-adapter show when I configure network adapters. VM-Version is vmx-09, Guest OSes are MacOS 10.8.2 (Server and Client).

ESXi-Version is 5.1.0 799733.

Hope this is the right place to ask in the Forum.

VMXNET3 adapter is supported on below guest OS only:

  • 32- and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows 7, XP, 2003, 2003 R2, 2008, 2008 R2, and Server 2012
  • 32- and 64-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 and later
  • 32- and 64-bit versions of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and later
  • 32- and 64-bit versions of Asianux 3 and later
  • 32- and 64-bit versions of Debian 4
  • 32- and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu 7.04 and later
  • 32- and 64-bit versions of Sun Solaris 10 U4 and later

Thank you. So in the end, there is no way to support faster than gigabit network connections on OSX guests, even though hardware would well be capable.

I know this is a old thread, but I may have a solution for you.

1.  Add a second E1000E virtual interface, reboot the VM

2.  Open System Preferences -> Network.  You should see your two adapters listed.

3.  Select the gear drop down box at the bottom and select Manage Virtual Interfaces

4.  Click the + button and select New Link Aggregate

5.  Select the two interfaces and name the bond then hit create.

6.  Configure the new network bond's IP address how ever you like.

I found a increase in speed by about double on my test server that only had two 1gig nics.

There should be no reason as to why you couldn't add more to the bond, I don't think there is an upper limit, but I did not research this or check since I only have 2 NIC's at 1 gig anyway.
