vmotion with RAW disk

Dear Alll

Hi

if i create a vm with Raw disk in SAN can i use vmotion ? how can i do that ?

Yes, as long as the pointer files are stored on shared storage. There is nothing special you need to do otherwise other than to ensure the RDM is visible from the destination ESXi host.

I would add to make sure that the RDM is in Physical mode, not virtual. Also make sure you have at least vSphere 6.

1- Is that your means i can do vmotion raw device map with in physical mode ?

2- what is difference between physical and virtual mode ?

3- when can we use virtual and when can physical mode?

4- can we do svmotion for raw disk in san ?

so thanks

just use case for physical and virtual is this :

1.Virtual compatibility mode allows an RDM to act exactly like a virtual disk file, including the use of snapshots.

2.Physical compatibility mode allows direct access of the SCSI device for those applications that need lower level control.

because i want use raw disk for install oracle i think had to use virtual compatibality mode

is that correct ?

i saw the table for differnce between physical and virtual but want to know the decision for use each of them is just for administration ?

now i have a problem that confused me suppose i want share more that 2RDM disks between vms and i want do vmotion between vms

but here there is a  for do vmotion i had to set scsi bus sharing on physical mode but from the other side had to set Virtual for RDM compatibility mode

realy confused is that correct ?
