vcenter server DB question

i'm newbie in vcenter server and recently installed vcenter 6.0U2 in my lab

first i install MS-SQL 2008R2 and manually create DB for "vcenter" and "update manager"

add SDN then after some challenge, finally could to finish installation.

I think it's working properly and i can log-in and do some task.

i have simple question,

is it necessary to create tow databases, one for VC and another for VUM?

or can use one db for both?  (both VC & VUM use same DB)

THNX in Advance

It can run on the same database server but a separate instance of database is required.

Check the below link.

vSphere 6.0 Documentation Center

Although in earlier versions I have seen people use same instance for vCenter and VUM DB and it used to work.

it might work still but creating a separate instance seems to be better option

The Update Manager database you use can be the same as the vCenter Server database. You can also use a separate database, or you can use existing database clusters. For best results in a large scale environment, you should use a dedicated Update Manager database that is located on a different computer than the vCenter Server system database.

VMware recommends using separate databases for vCenter Server and Update Manager. For a small deployments, a separate database for Update Manager might not be necessary..
