vSphere 6.0 Backwards Compatible?

Hi,

Does anyone know the backward compatibility matrix of vSphere 6.0? E.g. can it host 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 5.5 ESXi hosts?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

when 6.0 is GA, you can check the interoperability on this site:

Looking at older releases, I would expect the vCenter Server to be a good bit backwards compatible.

You'll have to wait until the official release for a definite answer, but I'm sure it will support managing all 5.x ESXi releases and update levels.

ESX(i) 4.x is out of support since May last year, so I wouldn't expect vCenter 6.0 to support it. If you haven't updated from 4.x to 5.x yet, a year with lack of support and updates should be reason enough to do so independently from a 6.0 release.

Ok thanks both.

We are on 5.5 so no need to upgrade Smiley Happy More of a question if we ever get a strange request from a customer to be on an earlier version of ESXi.

Another question is I'm presuming you can only vMotion from one vCenter to another if both vCenters are 6.0?
