vCentre Server Appliance (6.5) - unable to increase capacity on 3 hard drives

Hi

I am trying to resolve a consolidation issue on our vCenter Server Appliance (6.5).

During investigation I noticed that it stated that it had run out of space.

When I tried to increase the disk capacity for the various hard drives I noticed that hard disk 9, 10 and 12 are greyed out.

I presumed that these 3 hard disks are locked somewhere but without the additional capacity I cannot consolidate the drive.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Many thanks

Michael

They most likely appear "locked" because there is a snapshot active on those VMDKs which doesn't show in the snapshot manager. You can confirm this by looking at the directory hosting the files for this VM. Any VMDK files ending in up to five leading zeros followed by a digit is a snapshot delta VMDK. You cannot extend any disk which has a snapshot active. The fix is to consolidate this VM which can be done from the vSphere Client.
