vCenter architecture to suit multiple organisations

Greetings,

We are deploying a new vSphere infrastructure which will accomodate multiple organisations.

The vSphere infrastructure will all be at the same physical site.

We need to be able to delegate management of the vSphere resources for a specific orgnaisation to the admins in that orgnaisation.

The underlying hardware (ESX servers, storage, etc.) will be shared.

Security between organisatioins is not critical since they are agencies of the same over-arching organisation.

The organisations have different network needs and IP addressing schemes

Can I get advice from anyone involved with multiorganisation vSphere deployments on the pros and cons of going about this.  At the moment I'm thinking about two options:

1.  Single datacenter, one ESX host cluster per organisation with admin rights delegated at a cluster level.  Separate vSwithes for each organisation.  Shared storage.

2.  Single datacenter, one ESX host cluster only with hosts for a particular organisation gathered into folders and management rights delegagted at the folder level.  Distributed switch to host all networks.  Shared storage.

Can anyone recommend a good strategic vCenter deployment guide which covers some of the issues raised above.

Many thanks

Did you hear about vCloud Director ? This solution will make things very easy, but you can continue with your strategic, the only cons will be the administrative effort to maintain this infrastructure for multiple orgs.
