vCenter Server Memory Sizing

I have a 2K8R2 VM running vCenter Server, SSO, Inventory Service and I just installed the Web client on it.  With the addition of the Web client I just can't throw enough memory at this box.  I've bumped it up to 16GB and it's still using almost every bit of RAM, with the task scheduler showing physical memory 95% used.  I have 3 ESXi hosts and about  33 VMs.

How much more RAM do I need to give it, or do I need to start imposing restrictions on how much the apps take?

Thanks

Hi,

do you have any performance trouble with the vCenter Server?

RAM is designed to be in use and it's a good thing the server makes use of it Smiley Wink

I ran a 2k8R2 vCenter Server with MS SQL Enterprise, SSO, Inventory Service and Web Client on it with 12GB RAM and it performed quite well.

Edit: Have you checked with the Windows tools what application uses all the RAM?

I agree memory is there to be used; not abused Smiley Happy  It would be nice to leave some memory for it to breathe no?

vSphere web client seemed a bit sluggish at 12 Gb - will have to see how it behaves at 16GB.

Top 5 memory hogs:

java.exe 1.089,000K

java.exe 790,396K

java.exe 617,020K

java.exe 377,104K

sqlserver.exe 268,966K
