vCenter Install Fails when trying to install the vCenter Server to the PSC node in HA mode

Hi All ,

we have build two platform Service controllers in HA mode . We are trying to install the vCenter server and we are getting the below error message.

VCSCAValidateRemoteSSO: Unable to retrieve remote SSO version: 12029

2016-03-30 17:07:16.656+11:00| vcsInstUtil-2656758| I: PitCA_MessageBox: Displaying message: "The VMware vCenter Server installer could not verify that the remote vCenter Single Sign-On server is of version 6.0.0 or later. Check whether the remote vCenter Single Sign-On server is reachable and is of version 6.0.0 or later."

Has anyone in the community run vcenter server 6 in HA mode with the PSC controllers sitting behing the f5 load balancer ? please share your thoughts if you have seen any similar issue.

Thanks .

Hi ALL ,

we manage to get past the installation issue . we have done the packet capture on Both the ends and find out that the reset was issued to the installer from the vCenter Licencing service running on the PSC .

We also created more firewall rules 18 in total from the vcenter Servers to our f5 Load balancer and then 6 VIP from the F5 to the two Platform service controllers.

I hope this will help other people who were looking to install PSC in HA mode.

Were you able to solve this we are having the same issue with our configuration behind an F5 load balance appliance?

Packet captures show clean connectivity between hosts when we get the error it appears that the vCenter install is terminating the session to the PSC (tear down in the packet capture).

We can telnet to port 443 from vCenter to each PSC and to the PSC load balanced name and IP.

We can ping each PSC from vCenter and vice versa.

You're more than likely going to have to get GSS involved.

Can I ask why you are choosing to use the load balancer as opposed to deploying multiple PSCs and repoint in case of failure? There's no right or wrong answer, just asking. Because of the difficulty in deploying and then operating this setup, many customers just forgo the load balancer and repoint if there is a PSC failure. But that isn't appropriate for ALL environments.

We are running two lines of production and need a Highly Available solution for Authentication and Authorization purpose .

There is no good documentation that is available to confirm if this is even a proven working solution or not , So far we have seen wrong info in the Documentation and raised it to the vendor.
