vCenter Import Fails - A general system error occurred: Host not found (authoritative)

Hi

We basically have:

Source vCenter - 6.7
Destination vCenter - 7.0 U1C

On both we are using the administrator@vsphere.local account (different password on each one)

When trying to use the Import VM feature (or the Cross vCenter Migration tool fling - v3.1) we get the following error:
A general system error occurred: Host not found (authoritative)

This shows up when trying to select a destination host (so from the server that is initiating the process).  They are all on the same VLANs for both vCenter and vMotion and they can all ping the hostnames both ways.  As it's on the same VLAN there is no firewall between them.  We are using the FQDN and NTP is using the same source server for both the Source and Destination vCenter.

We are finding it very hard to find any information on this - in a  lab with a similar setup the process works fine so there's something not right somewhere!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello,

We have the very same issue here, same versions (except VSphere 7.0.2 instead of 7.0u1c). Strangely, it works from one 6.7 cluster, but not from another one.

Hello,

I had the same issue and the problem was that the source vCenter could not resolve the FQDN of the destination one. So you need to make sur that the source vCenter can resolve the FQDN, if not, you could (but it's not recommended I think...) add the entry to the /etc/hosts file...
