vCenter Custome attributes & Tags - When to use which one

Hi

Need some suggestions for folks here

I saw some articles which suggest we should use tags over custom attributes

My use case :

Create CMDB for vms for below

Line of business

Prod vm or dev etc

Name of application running on it

ETC

So what is best way to get this,  tags or with Custom attributes or it does not matter ?

Hello.

Both Custom Attributes and Tags can be used in conjunction with your CMDB system, but if you are using some automation tools, to deploy, modify and mark you objects in vCenter in order to correctly recognize this items in CMDB its better to use Tags. Because Tags can be implemented using API and Custom Attributes does not.
