DRS is enabled per cluster, so if you want to use DRS against all 17 hosts you will need to put them into your cluster. The only way to remove a host from a cluster is to place it into maintainance mode which will allow you to remove it?

Not sure as to why you would want to remove them afterwards though especially as it seems you need to rely on DRS to balance load across your hosts?

Yes you can remove them from the cluster but only in MAINTAINENCE MODE.

Can I ask your reason for wanting to remove hosts from the cluster?
