vCenter 6.0 show itself as IP and not FQDN

Hello Everybody,

this is for sure a common topic for a lot of people and i did not find any solution looking in the forum, blog and KBs.

If someone set a vCenter Server Appliance 6.x using IP instead of FQDN as result they will have a vCenter that show itself as IP and not as FQDN/name.

There is any way to switch it to FQDN ?

I just tried regenerating all the Certificates via CLI, verifying the DNS configuration and the vCenter Propertiers.

The DNS entry is there and the reverse lookup is working fine.

Thank you

Andrea

No, once they have done this the only way to use a FQDN as the primary identifier is to reinstall. This is why it's so important to use FQDN at the outset and not IP address.

You can try changing the runtime settings. In my lab setup I've changed from FQDN to IP

Vijay2027 changing the name here will not effect the PNID only the display name of the object. There is no process to change this after install.
