vCenter 6.0 managing ESX 5.5 and 6 hosts

hi guys

I would like to hear your opinions about this

right now we want to migrate to  6.0 Vmware version but we found our cluster has some servers that won't support ESXi 6.0 and they have to stay in 5.5 U3 (right now they are 5.5 GA) and we have some other servers that are compatible with ESXi 6.0

what do you think of having a vCenter 6.0 managing ESXi 5.5 and 6.0 hosts in the same cluster?

good practice? might happen something unpredictable ?

any recommendation?

vCenter 6.0 can manage hosts from 5.0 to 6.0, so there is no problem to manage ESXi 5.5 and 6.0 with the same vCenter, but since you told that these hosts have different hardware, I will recommend you create separated cluster, for each type of hardware.

The good practice is always keep all hosts in a cluster with the same version and exact same hardware. That will avoid a lot of problems.

Like I said before, try keep all hosts in the same cluster with the same exact hardware configuration and same version.

‌As Richardson has said, try to keep hosts in the same cluster running the same version.

And having ESXi 5.x hosts managed by vCenter 6 is fine. As Richardson said this is supported and we had a few customers do this who had legacy 5.x servers that they were planning to decommission and weren't on the HCL for ESXi .

vCenter 6.0 support and it will manage Esxi 5.0 to 6.0 , so you may use same vCenter to manage them .

If you have enogh resources , you may go with multiple cluster for differnt H/W .

Good practice is cluster with the same hardware and same ESXi version .

This will avoid issues such as VM tools / VM hardware compatibility on different ESXi versions .

basically they are HS22 and HS23 IBM Server HS22 only supports 5.5 U3 and HS23 support 6.0
