  • 1.  svMotion fails on specific datastore?

    Posted Apr 27, 2015 03:52 AM

Hi , I have two hosts and each have multiple VMs , so when i want to migrate VMs from one to another some VMs which reside on my Datastore01 return an error of "cannot relocate /path/vmfs" , they cannot be cloned either. other VMs[on  same host] are OK to migrate but these specific ones that are on Datastore01 are erroneous . Datastore01 is working fine (all VMs on it are doing their task just fine and are servicing ) . what could be my problem ? tnx :smileyhappy:

    Hi,

Pls confirm if Datastore is local datastore or shared datatore among both ESXi

The datastores are local , but i have tested svmotion on several similar hosts (with local datastores) and everything was ok on those hosts . even on this specific host (Say HOST_1) despite owning local datastores , svmotion is done on some VMs , and fails on some other VMs . i checked and looked for the reason , i only found out those VMs which failed are residing in same datastore .

    Hi,

Are you able to migrate a VM when it is power-off state?

I use vSphere client (Not Web-client) so i should power-off before migration , and yes i power-off and start migration , for some VMs this would be finished in roughly 15 min , for those faulty VMs it return error at the middle of migration (40-50 percent) and be cancelled .
