I have storage vmotioned a couple of vms from vmfs1 to vmfs2.
The vm still shows its on vmfs1 and also vmfs2.
If i browse vmfs there are no files or folders in reference to these vms
If i edit the vms, i see no reference to any HD on vmfs1 nor do i show any iso attached (or unattached) to vmfs1.
How do i tell what the vm thinks its still connected to on vmfs1? I have never seen this before but i must be overlooking something simple.
The vms are all linux appliances in this case.
WE are running 7.0u3(with the most recent patches).
I have tried moving the vm between hosts as well to see if it would disconnect the older vmfs1 but no luck. I Have also rebooted thinking that might refresh it but no luck.
A common cause for this (other than ISO's) is VM snapshots?
If the VM has one (or more) they could be referencing an ISO that was there at the time the snapshot was taken, but has since been removed from the VM, hence the reference to the old datastore!
Have a look and see if that might be your issue?
It mentions a few more things.
- possibly reference to a floppy drive on virtual hardware version 10 or earlier
- try vMotioning the VM to another host
- try unregistering the VM, and then re-registering it again.
I suspect the last one will do the trick!
