software iSCSI - multipathing

Hi,

When creating the 2 vmkernels (which will have one active uplink and one unused uplink), should I assign a different network/subnet to each vmkernel?

It all depends on the given iSCSI Storage.

If its a all ports in the same subnet type like Dell EqualLogic

- One vSwitch

- 2 pNICs as Uplinks

- 2 VMKs within the same Subnet of course

- Assign one pNIC to the VMK as active and the other one as unused

- Same wise versa with the 2nd. VMK

- Enable Software iSCSI and bind both VMKs to swISCSI and enter the target IP of the storage under dynamic targets.

A Storage with ports in different Subnets

- TWO vSwitchs

- 1 pNIc as Uplink per vSwitch

- One VMK per vSwitch

-  NO binding on the swiscsi

There is a VMware Knowledge Base  about how to setup swiscsi.

Regards,

Joerg
