shutdown

Hi i am replacing my Hp blade enclosure pass through module with Brocade san switch.

I am taking downtime as i will upgrade firmware for servers also.

When it comes to vmware infrastucture what are the necessary steps to be considered when doing this activity please guide me.

1 shutdown virtual machines,

2.shutdown physical servers.

3 As brocade switch is replaced i will poweron physical servers.

4 i will login to the esxi host which has vcenter and power on vcenter server.

5.  power on virtual machines

6 check all my datastores are connected

Anything else i need to take care plz guide me.

Your plan looks ok, but if you have shared storage and have room in your cluster to put a host in maintenance mode, you can do this even without downtime, just doing vMotion of virtual machines and placing the host in maintenance mode.

unfortunately all my blade servers are in this enclosure and its DMZ and i also need to update the firmware of servers and enclosure also.

the only thing i need to worry is, all the data stores should be presented after replacing pass thru module with brocade san switch

Since nothing will be changed on storage side, make sure zoning is in place and everything should works.
