Hi
Is there a way to determing if an existing vmdk for a vm is thin provisioned or thick provisioned?
How do we go about determing it from VCSA or ESX ?
I only found http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101117...
but these parameters are no more available (vma version 5.0.2)
vmkfstools --version
vSphere SDK for Perl version: 5.0
Script 'vmkfstools' version: 5.0
Thank you for any tip
Are you looking for an automated way to find this information, or just any way possible?
Hi
I give preference to automated way. Maybe I can make a script if you tel me the right tool for showing that information. Just for clarify , I do not have the access to Powercli.
thank you
Without access to the CLI tools, it might be best to use something like the free RVTools.
Any tips for linux OS ? May I use some tool from vma ? Seems to me, this is common task for administering virtual farm, nothing special ..
I can't believe that there is no equivalent tool for showing this kind of information. Perhaps I miss something ...
hi vmroyale,
u share us a nice tool. thnx.

I installed RVTools 3.5 but got this login error:
Could not connect to [IP of our ESXi 5U1]
Unknown error: the remote server returned an error (443)
Forbidden
Have we to enable any feature on our host?
THX, Rainer
Esxi host management connection port (443) should be open.

Port 443 is open. Other ideas?
first u try telnet 443 from your PC. i think may be your firewall is open or contact to your network administrator.
