proper steps to shutdown whole cluster & vCLS VM?

I got an environment of vCenter 7.0.3 Build 19234570 and ESXi 7 hosts(the cluster has DRS and HA enabled), and encountered a maintenance task on the entire data center: shutdown everything from VMs to ESXi hosts temporarily.

Note that this datacenter has no vSAN.

In order to make the vCLS VMs being shutdown correctly, should I disable the DRS & HA before shutdown vCLS? or maybe making ESXi into maintenance mode would be sufficient?

I just read this doc: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.resmgmt.doc/GUID-96BD6016-4BE7-4B1C... but wondering about whether the retreat mode should be applied or not.

any hints please?🙄

Hi,

In your case there is no need to touch the vCLS VMs.

Simply shutdown all your VMs, put all cluster hosts in maintenance mode and then you can power down.

Regards,

J.
