problem on vm update...

Hi all,

We could not update windows and Linux VM through update manager on vsphere 5.0. on previous version (4.1) all updates are updated through shavlik.com. for linux (https://xml.shavlik.com/unix/) and for windows it was (https://xml.shavlik.com/data). But on current version this link is not working. now tell me how i can update all vm through update manager.

Hi,

since version 5.0 the update manager does not support virtual machine patch operations anymore.

then how i will update vm? is there any tool for update vm? does vsphere 5.1 update manager do this.

No, 5.1 does not support it either. The document says it's unsupported in 5.X

You can only update the VM hardware and the VMware tools with the Update Manager.

I guess you have to use update solutions inside the guest OS, like WSUS for windows or a third party tool 😞

what about this product?   "vCenter™ Protect Essentials Plus - Configuration Management 4.3.19". i found it from shavlik.com.

I don't know it is recommended by vmware or not. can any one suggest me, that product good or not...
