    does vsphere have to be installed with port 80? can it be installed with port 82 if port 80 is already in use.

    Assuming that you are talking about vCenter Server for Windows, don't bother with it any longer. The current version is the last one that comes with a Windows setup. Future versions will only have the vCenter Server Appliances, i.e. no Windows installation anymore.

    Considering how everything today is on the HTML5 web client, I wouldn't want to muck with anything that may make break it.

    You may want to consider using port translation in your router.

    From the outside your web browser will use 82, but inside the LAN it is translated to the default 80.
