migrate from old vCenter to new vCenter (V2V)

Gents Hi

We just complete installation the new vCenter Infrastructure (Network+ storage, HA ...etc)

now we are planning to migrate all VMs on the old vCenter and old ESXi to the new infrastructure : vCenter + ESXi + Storage ( note: the network configuration are the same)

what steps we need to do to complete V2V migration.

note: all vCenters (old and new) in the same site.

I am assuming you are also standing up new ESXi hosts - you have two possibilities:

  1. Utilize VMware Standalone Converter and V2V the vms -
  2. If you are able to present the old storage to the new environment you will have twomethods- share the storage -
    1. Shut down the VM and remover it from the old environment - form the new environment browse to the VM location and add it to the new environment - then cold migrate to the new storage
    2. remove the old ESXi hosts from the old vCenter environment and add to the new environment - then either vmotion or cold migrate the VMs to the new hosts
