i've vcenter 5.5 installed on win 2008r2 and connected to external DB sql 2008r2-sp2 standard edition i need to install vcenter 6 on new fresh copy of windows and i try to make that when i go through setup on the dsn page i get the error in attach, so how can i fix this? i don't go to upgrade the 5.5 version because i face problem in vcenter inventory service that can't be run.
If you are doing a fresh install of vCenter why wouldn't you do a fresh install of SQL and upgrade your currently version? You could also use the postgres DB that is packaged with 6.
What structure would change? In a nutshell you build a new vCenter 6 server and attach your 5.5 host to it and migrate VMs off each host 1 at a time and upgrade those. Your "structure" doesn't go away.
