Hi All,
I have a esxi 4.1 host with bad disk its a IBM 3650 hardware. I lost all vms in one of the disk due to bad hard drive.
I configured "alarm" to "hardware status changed" to send email under "host" category
But I did not got email.
What is the best way to deal with this ?
Hello,
this kind of event, should be already been monitored by the "Cannot connect to storage" vcenter default alarm.
You should check the tab "Actions" of this alarm, to configure it to send email if this alarm happens.
Check this vmware's KB, maybe helps you:
VMware KB: Creating Storage Path Redundancy/lost storage connectivity alarms in vCenter Server
Best regards,
Pablo
Do you have the the SMTP server specified in the vCenter Server settings under Mail? If so, have you received any other alarms?
Yes I do receive other configured alerts in vcenter .. Thanks
Go to the host that had the drive failure & click on the "Tasks and Events" tab. Beside "View :" click "Events" and check and see if an event was triggered for the alarm you created. If so you should see something about alarm triggered and email sent to ....
I found a alert post the outage tho - Storage Path redundancy .. Do not see any relevant logs during the outage window
If you go to the host that had the drive failure and click on the "Alarms" tab and then click on triggered alarms, it should show you which alert/alarm was triggered for that host as long as it was not cleared or acknowledged. This should tell if you if you have the correct alarm configured. It may be that your alarm is not configured to alert on what you think it is supposed to.
