esx host cannot see the datastore

Hi team, I have vcenter 5 managing 2 esxi5 hosts. now added a esxi4 in the cluster and added iniitators for the filers. i can see the paths under this esx4 host showing the luns of the filers. but I am not able to see data store. when I tried to edit a vm newly created to find the iso of the datastore, it shows only the local hdd of the host, which is a UCS blade. the exsi5 hosts both ok to see all data stores. anyone can advise which portion going wrong? thanks!

Looks like there is no problem with the LUN presentation since you can see the path to the LUNs from host.

Does these VMFS datastores created are from ESXi 50? if so the VMFS version will be 5 (VMFS 5) which is not supported in ESXi 4.1.

In that case its expected that the ESXi 4.1  host wont show VMFS5 datastores.

Hi kongfupanda2,

Welcome to VMwre communities!!!.

Can you check on the ISCSI array whether the LUNS are presented to new HOSTS.

Also you can check  whether new HOSTs are able to login to the targets.

~ # vmkiscsi-tool HBA -T

~ # vmkiscsi-tool vmhba39 -T

thanks for reply , I will check that. meanwhile can you help clarify if this is correct? I found the network configuration tab is missing under iscsi initiator (vmhba32) properties, while the other hosts have this tab,   I did add a vkernal in vswtich1 . please advise, thanks

The network configuration tab is available only on ESXi 5.0 or later versions. Its not available on ESXi 4.x

Yes they were created with vcenter 5 and esxi5. Believe this is key reason. Thanks !

Thanks and best regards
