current cluster does not have HA / EVC...best way to enable

Hi

I have a 4 node ESXi 4.1 cluster, it does not have either HA or EVC enabled, I now need to enable this but want to know the best way to do this keeping downtime to a minimum

Can i create a new cluster within the same Vcentre server and reconnect the hosts to this without downtime or will the Host require a reboot regardless.

Thanks

Nick

For to enable HA there's no need for downtime. Just enable it and the host in the cluster will be reconfigured.

For EVC it depends on the hosts (CPU model/features) in the cluster. If you are currently able to vMotion VM between the hosts there's actually no need to enable EVC. If there's a requirement to enable EVC, please provide some details about the hardware you use, mainly the CPUs.

There is absolutely no down time required to enable HA/DRS on a cluster.

To enable HA/DRS, right click on the Cluster and check ‘Select Turn On VMware HA and/or Turn On VMware DRS’.
